The San Francisco 49ers have promoted running back Jeff Wilson from the practice squad to the active roster, the team announced. They waived quarterback Tom Savage to make room on the roster.

The 49ers also announced that wide receiver Marquise Goodwin's game status has been downgraded to doubtful, as he has been excused to address a personal matter.

News of the 49ers signing Wilson (6-0, 194) was announced by his agent on April 29 and the team officially announced the signing on May 1. The running back was an undrafted free agent out of North Texas.

Wilson was part of the 53-man roster cutdown before the start of the regular season and was signed to the practice squad on September 2.

Wilson rushed for 1,215 (6.5 average) with 16 touchdowns in 11 games as a senior at North Texas. He finished third in Mean Green history with 32 touchdowns and fourth with 3,205 career rushing yards. Wilson also added 70 receptions for 527 yards with two touchdowns.

San Francisco initially signed Savage on October 16 before waiving him four days later. The team re-signed the quarterback on October 22 only to waive him again on November 1 before its game against the Oakland Raiders.

Savage was re-signed the next day on November 2.

The Houston Texans made Savage a fourth-round draft pick out of Pittsburgh in 2014. His best season came last year when he completed 56.1 percent of his passes for 1,412 yards with five touchdowns and six interceptions.
