San Francisco 49ers quarterback Nick Mullens had a good night. He led his team to a 34-3 victory over the Oakland Raiders in the final Battle of the Bay game, passed for 262 yards with three touchdowns in his NFL debut, and even got verified on Twitter.

Mullens, whom the 49ers signed last year as an undrafted free agent out of Southern Miss, received another surprise while sitting down with Steve Mariucci as part of NFL Network's post-game coverage. He received a phone call from another quarterback who played for the Golden Eagles — Hall of Famer Brett Favre.

"I couldn't be more proud for you," Favre told Mullens. "What a great start. I'm not surprised at your success and I wish you the best. You know that."

Mullens told Mariucci that he knows Favre pretty well. The two even share the same agent.

"Yeah, he broke all my records (at Southern Miss)," Favre added.

Favre watched Mullens' play on Thursday night. What did the long-time Green Bay Packers quarterback think of the second-year player?

"I'm not surprised in how he played one bit," Favre responded. "He did that at Southern Miss. He handled himself with tremendous class. He's a very bright football mind. All he needed, honestly, was an opportunity, and he got it, and he made the most of it. I'm not surprised one bit."

Mullens was asked by reporters about the phone call from Favre.

"It was pretty cool," Mullens said. "Definitely an honor. It's cool to see Southern Miss alumni stay in-tune with the program and support each other, so I'm definitely appreciative of that, and I definitely have the most respect for Brett."

Mullens also added that Favre sent him a message before the game that said, "No pressure. Just be yourself."
