The San Francisco 49ers announced on Saturday that defensive back Antone Exum Jr. (quadricep) has been downgraded to questionable for this weekend's game against the Los Angeles Chargers. He was not listed with an injury on Friday's practice participation report.
Exum figured to start in place of Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder), who is listed as doubtful, if the safety cannot play in Los Angeles.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked on Friday about Exum's performance against the Chiefs.
"I thought he got a lot better as the game went," he said. "I think he made some mistakes early in the game and I think once he played a little bit more I think it slowed down for him. From a physical standpoint, I thought he played fairly well just running. I thought he tackled fairly well. I thought he did good jobs in his coverage. I think it took him a little bit for the game to calm down for him as it did for a lot of our defense in the first half. But, I was definitely happy with how he finished."
The updated injury report for the 49ers' game against the Chargers now looks like this:
Out
G Joshua Garnett (toe), CB Richard Sherman (calf)
Doubtful
S Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder)
Questionable
DB Antone Exum Jr. (quadricep), RB Matt Breida (knee), S Adrian Colbert (hip), RB Alfred Morris (knee)
