Matt Simms among quarterbacks known to be working out for 49ers

Sep 25, 2018 at 9:40 AM--

Former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Simms is among the list of known quarterbacks working out for the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday.

The New York Jets signed Simms as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee in 2012. He spent his first three NFL seasons in New York.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has familiarity with Simms, who joined the Falcons in 2015 when Shanahan was the offensive coordinator there. Simms spent two seasons on Atlanta's practice squad before being released with an injury settlement before last season.

Simms joins Tom Savage, Kellen Clemens, and T.J. Yates in working out for the 49ers. The team had hoped to work out former Miami Dolphins quarterback Matt Moore as well but he declined, according to his agent.

Things looked dire as the San Francisco 49ers left MetLife Stadium on Sunday. Raheem Mostert isn't expected to miss too much time, but the same isn't true for Tevin Coleman, who head coach Kyle Shanahan said may miss four weeks and is a candidate for short-term injured reserve. After watching Shanahan's squad plummet in power rankings, one

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch joined KNBR on Thursday and provided a few injury updates. There wasn't a lot of new information provided, as we know where many of the injured Niners are right now. Jimmy Garoppolo is week-to-week with a high-ankle sprain but is fighting to get back on the football field. George Kittle is being George Kittle and could get back on the field on Sunday, just two weeks after suffering an MCL sprain and bone bruise. "George has done a really good job, like he always does, attacking," Lynch said on the Tolbert, Krueger & Brooks show. "... And like most gifted
