The San Francisco 49ers announced on Wednesday that linebacker Brock Coyle has been placed on injured reserve. He registered six tackles during Sunday's 24-16 loss to the Minnesota Vikings before suffering a concussion.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed on Wednesday that Coyle also has a broken bone in his back — T4 compression fracture.

"Six weeks until he can have contact again," Shanahan said. "He will recover sometime this year but it's going to be at least six weeks before he can have a chance to play football."

Coyle signed a three-year extension with the 49ers on March 14 after initially joining the team on a one-year deal on March 10, 2017. He, along with safety Marcell Harris (hamstring) and linebacker Dekoda Watson (hamstring), is eligible to return to the active roster after spending eight weeks on injured reserve.

The 49ers also announced several other roster moves on Wednesday, including the signing of linebacker Terence Garvin to a one-year deal. His signing was first reported earlier during the day by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

In addition to the Garvin signing, the 49ers promoted offensive lineman Najee Toran from the practice squad to the active roster. The team signed wide receiver Frank Stephens to replace Toran on the practice squad.

The 49ers initially signed Toran as an undrafted free agent on May 1. He was released as part of the 53-man roster cut-down on September 1 and then signed to the practice squad the following day.

Garvin will wear number 57.

Toran will wear number 66.

49ers offer Deebo Samuel assurances regarding roster status

By David Bonilla

Amidst swirling trade rumors surrounding Brandon Aiyuk, the speculation surrounding Deebo Samuel's future with the San Francisco 49ers seems to have quieted down. According to Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle, the 49ers have assured Samuel that he will not be involved in any pre- or post-draft transactions, ensuring his place on the roster for the time being. "Samuel, who signed a three-year, $71.55 million extension before the 2022 season, has been assured by his bosses that he will not be dealt during or after the draft," Silver reported, citing a source familiar with the discussions. 49ers mailbag: Will Brandon Aiyuk be on the roster on Friday morning? Will SF draft another quarterback?

By Marc Adams

We're just over 24 hours before round one of the NFL Draft begins. The San Francisco 49ers are scheduled to have their first pick in the opening round since 2021 when they drafted Trey Lance. That didn't turn out well, but there is optimism that the team will be able to make its roster better over the next few days. GM John Lynch spoke on Monday and said there's a possibility the team could trade out of the first round. I doubt that would go over well with the fanbase, especially since they haven't had a first-rounder in the past two years. But if it's a good trade that lands the 49ers some quality picks, we could see that happen, especially if there aren't any players at pick 31 that the team is excited about. We opened up the 49ers Webzone Mailbag to see what

Why one analyst is worried for Brock Purdy if 49ers trade Brandon Aiyuk

By David Bonilla
Apr 18

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy achieved a remarkable feat in 2023, setting a single-season franchise record with 4,280 passing yards. This accomplishment is noteworthy, considering the illustrious quarterbacks who have graced the organization's history. A significant portion of those yards came from wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who amassed a career-high and team-leading 1,342 receiving yards. Most of his 75 catches originated from passes thrown by Purdy. Amidst significant offseason chatter surrounding the 49ers' star receiver, including several unsubstantiated trade rumors, Aiyuk's future remains uncertain. Former NFL player James Jones, now an analyst, expressed concern for Purdy should Aiyuk's tenure in the Bay Area come to an end. "I

49ers' Brock Purdy addresses young fan's question about scripted NFL

By David Bonilla

Taylor Swift, the Kansas City Chiefs, and a Super Bowl overtime matchup. If the NFL is scripted, the league came up with a good one this past season—unless you're a San Francisco 49ers fan. During his inaugural youth football camp at Levi's Stadium this past weekend, 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy faced a candid inquiry from one young participant: Is the NFL scripted? "No, the NFL is not scripted," a smiling Purdy responded. However, the quarterback added, "Good
