Key 49ers player and team stats from 23-17 loss to the Colts

The San Francisco 49ers lost 23-17 to the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday and dropped to 1-2 on the preseason.

Below is a mix of key player and team stats provided by the NFL and Pro Football Focus.

Key Player Statistics


Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo struggled a bit, completing just nine of his 19 attempts for 135 yards. Quarterback C.J. Beathard was 7-of-8 for 83 yards while Nick Mullens was 4-of-6 for 62 yards.

New 49ers running back Alfred Morris had an impressive debut rushing for 84 yards on 17 carries and had five runs of at least nine yards.

Helping in the 49ers rushing attack were center Weston Richburg and fullback Kyle Juszczyk. Richburg earned a Pro Football Focus run blocking grade of 91.8 while Juszczyk finished at 89.6.

Rookie wide receiver Richie James had a team-leading three receptions for 65 yards. Three 49ers receivers had catches of 35-or-more yards. They were James (42), Pierre Garçon (47), and Aldrick Robinson (35).

Defensive end Jeremiah Attaochu had a sack.

Defensive lineman Solomon Thomas had two run stops and a quarterback hurry which led to Attaochu's sack. Thomas had a defense-leading 88.8 grade.

Linebacker Fred Warner led the defense with five combined tackles.

Defensive tackle D.J. Jones had two run stops and a quarterback hurry during his 19 snaps. He finished with a grade of 87.4.

Kicker Robbie Gould was in mid-season form. He hit on all three of his field goal attempts with his longest coming from 37 yards out.

Key Team Statistics


The 49ers offense combined for 390 total net yards, 126 of which were on the ground. San Francisco is averaging 411 yards per game, which leads the NFL in the preseason.

The 49ers defense allowed just 80 rushing yards on 35 attempts.

Offensive lineman Jon Feliciano and linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles recently re-signed with the San Francisco 49ers on one-year deals.
