The San Francisco 49ers have blocked a request by the Tennessee Titans to interview their defensive quality control coach, DeMeco Ryans, according to Jason Wolf of The Tennessean.

Ryans, a former NFL linebacker, joined 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan's staff on February 21, 2017, which was a year after his release by the Philadelphia Eagles.

Ryans was selected by the Houston Texans in the second round of the 2006 draft and went on to spend 10 seasons in the league.

It is not known what role the Titans would have liked to interview Ryans for.

Mike Vrabel has been busy assembling his coaching staff since being hired by the Titans on January 20 to be their head coach. On Monday, Dean Pees was hired to be Tennessee's defensive coordinator.
