49ers vs Rams Game Preview

Dec 31, 2017 at 12:02 PM--

The 49ers will wrap up the 2017 season with a tilt against the LA Rams in Los Angeles at 1PM. The Niners are among the hottest teams in the NFL right now, having won their last 4 games under the guidance of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

A win would give the 49ers a 5 game winning streak to end the season, their longest streak since the 2013 season under Jim Harbaugh. They'll have to do it against many of the Rams backups, as Rams head coach Sean McVay has indicated he is resting starters Jared Goff, Todd Gurley and Aaron Donald, among others.

The Rams have locked up the NFC West and are locked into the 4 seed, at worst and will get at least one home game in the postseason, prompting the decision from McVay.

49ers wideout Marquise Goodwin has a legitimate shot at 1,000 yard season, needing only 66 yards to reach the milestone for the first time in his career. Running back Carlos Hyde has an outside shot at 1,000 yards rushing, needing 150 yards today.

However, the story of the second half of the season (and beyond) is undoubtedly Garoppolo. He has set an NFL record by throwing for 1,217 yards in his first four starts, surpassing Hall of Famer Kurt Warner. Garoppolo has never lost a start in his career and will look to keep that going today.

Today marks what could be the last game with the 49ers for a couple of familiar faces, as Hyde and safety Eric Reid are both impending free agents this offseason.

49ERS INACTIVES:

WR Max McCaffrey
RB Jeremy McNichols
S Antone Exum Jr.
LB Pita Taumoepenu
LB Aaron Lynch
DL Leger Douzable
DL DJ Jones

Jimmy Garoppolo didn't sound overly confident that he would start on Sunday night when the San Francisco 49ers host the Los Angeles Rams at Levi's Stadium. The Niners still seek their first home win of the season, and Garoppolo didn't play particularly well (OK, it was really bad) during this past weekend's embarrassing 43-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins. Garoppolo had missed two games while recovering from a high-ankle sprain and didn't look completely healthy as he went 7-of-17 for 77 yards with two interceptions and a passer rating of 15.7. "I really haven't thought that far ahead," Garoppolo responded when asked about his chances of playing in Week 6. "I guess we'll

Kwon Alexander suffered a 'possible' high-ankle sprain; Shanahan not counting on Richard Sherman for 49ers-Rams

By David Bonilla
Oct 12, 2020

Kwon Alexander could be the latest San Francisco 49ers player sidelined. On Monday, head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that the linebacker suffered a "possible" high-ankle sprain on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. That doesn't necessarily mean injured reserve just yet, though, as the injury's severity hasn't been determined. Alexander played 66 of the 67 total snaps on defense against the Dolphins. "We could be wrong, but right now, they told me that they believe it's a high-ankle sprain," Shanahan told reporters. "They're not sure of the severity of it. It could be a minor one, for whatever that means. If it's automatic high-ankle sprain, I'd be talking about IR and stuff right now. But they told me to hold on that because they think it possibly could be a
