ESPN.com reports San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith (shoulder) suffered either a second or third degree shoulder separation during the team's matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. A third degree shoulder separation would likely require surgery which would most likely end Smith's season.
However, according to NFL Radio's Dave Hagen, Alex Smith suffered a second degree separation and is likely out 4-6 weeks.
An official announcement has not yet been made by the team.
