Lions sign ex-49ers LB Nick Bellore

Apr 3, 2017 at 8:33 AM--

The Detroit Lions have announced the signing of former San Francisco 49ers linebacker Nick Bellore.

Bellore was signed by the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Central Michigan in 2011. He spent four seasons with the Jets where he appeared in all 64 games – primarily on special teams. Bellore led the Jets in special teams tackles in each of his first three seasons with the team.

In April of 2015, Bellore signed a two-year contract with the 49ers in the wake of the retirements of linebackers Patrick Willis and Chris Borland. Last season, he appeared in 14 games and started a career-high 10 games. During that time, he had 83 tackles, five passes defended, a sack, an interception, and a fumble recovery.

On December 19, Bellore was placed on injured reserve after suffering an elbow injury the day before against the Atlanta Falcons.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has expressed confidence that his defensive coordinator, Robert Saleh, would do well in any head-coaching job interview. Saleh interviewed with the Detroit Lions on Thursday, a job for which many consider him to be the favorite. One NFL insider suggests that particular interview may not have gone as well as Shanahan might expect or Saleh might have hoped. "Saleh did not do very well in the Detroit interview, I was told. And is not a shoo-in to get the job," Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle said during a radio interview with SportsTalk 790's Adam Clanton and Adam Wexler (via

Saleh, Jets Could Thwart 49ers' Plans to Re-Sign Secondary

By Levin T. Black

The San Francisco 49ers don't have a secondary at this time. That's not an exaggeration. As of right now, the only player from the secondary to play significant minutes who is not a pending free agent is free safety Jimmie Ward. Here's a list of the players from the secondary who played at least 100 snaps in 2020 but would have to get new contracts if they were to play for the 49ers again: Richard Sherman, Jason Verrett, Jaquiski Tartt, K'Waun Williams, Emmanuel Moseley, Akhello Witherspoon, Marcell Harris, Dontae Johnson, Jamar Taylor. Only one of these is not an unrestricted free agent. Moseley is an exclusive restricted free agent, meaning the 49ers will be able to re-sign him if they choose to. As long as the 49ers offer him a league minimum contract, Moseley is

Video shows 49ers DE Nick Bosa's rehab progress

Things seemingly fell apart for the San Francisco 49ers during Week 2 of the 2020 season, when the team lost several players to injuries. That includes the season-ending ACL injury suffered by second-year defensive end Nick Bosa. "The second week of the year, we didn't have the same team," head coach Kyle Shanahan said, heading into Week 17. "I think we had a pretty unprecedented amount of injuries by Week 2. And then I thought that was rock-bottom, and it wasn't. It was the starting of about 30 other bad things that kept happening, all the way to getting kicked out of our homes by our county to come out here for a month."
