General manager John Lynch joined Bay Area radio station KNBR on Thursday morning and was asked whether Evans was "not likely" to play against the Falcons in Atlanta.
"I wouldn't say 'not likely.' I think it's still TBD," Lynch said. "We've got a couple of more days. We're going to take every bit of those to try to ascertain where Mike's at. He's done a really good job treating this thing, and obviously, we know of Mike's toughness.
"So, we'll let these next couple of days play out and make a decision when we have to. Mike's that type of player that you wait, you let the process play itself out, and we'll see where we're at at the end of the week."
Lynch acknowledged he's never dealt with Achilles tendinitis himself but noted the 49ers have had players manage similar issues in the past. That experience has given the team an understanding of how unpredictable recovery timelines can be.
"Not fun—just kind of nagging," Lynch said of it. "And so, we're doing our best to kind of alleviate that from Mike so he can go play the fantastic football he has."
How close is Nick Bosa to playing?
Lynch was also asked about defensive end Nick Bosa, who has missed the last four games with a calf injury. The 49ers had hoped he might return against the Commanders, but he ultimately remained sidelined.
Could Bosa be back against the Falcons?
"He's kind of in that same Mike Evans bucket where we will kind of evaluate Nick here in the next couple of days, and I'm sure [head coach] Kyle [Shanahan] will have something for you on Friday while we're leaving for Atlanta."
Should the 49ers rest their injured players?
With the 49ers' bye week coming after Sunday's game, Lynch was also asked whether the team might consider resting injured players rather than risking further setbacks before the break.
"You try to win every game in this league, and so if our players are healthy and we feel good about their ability to not put themselves in more harm and go affect the game in a positive way, that's what you do in this league," Lynch said.
