Noticeably absent from that list is Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, one of Aiyuk's closest friends. According to Grant Cohn of Sports Illustrated, Aiyuk unfollowed Daniels after the quarterback's recent interaction with a fan.
Daniels is believed to be one of the biggest reasons Aiyuk wants to join the Commanders. The disgruntled receiver has repeatedly expressed his desire to sign with Washington once the 49ers release him—whenever that ultimately happens.
The apparent fallout stemmed from an encounter at a soccer game, where a self-proclaimed 49ers fan shouted at Daniels: "Hey, Jayden Daniels, f--k Brandon Aiyuk! F--k Brandon Aiyuk! F--k Brandon Aiyuk! You better not throw s--t to him next year! I'm a Niner fan! F--k Brandon Aiyuk! F--k Brandon Aiyuk!"
The exchange underscores how frustrated many 49ers fans have become with Aiyuk following months of bizarre behavior and public criticism of the organization.
How did Daniels respond? The quarterback simply smiled and laughed, prompting the following response from Aiyuk, in which the receiver seemingly criticized Daniels' subdued reaction.
Aiyuk also shared the following on Instagram.
Cohn also noted that Daniels no longer follows Aiyuk on Instagram.
"For what it's worth, Daniels doesn't follow Aiyuk anymore, either, which means Daniels most likely unfollowed him today as well," he wrote.
If true, Aiyuk can ill afford to burn another bridge. His ongoing public feud with the 49ers has already raised questions about his future, and many around the league believe he'll be limited to a one-year prove-it contract in 2026—assuming a team is willing to take the chance on him.
Despite that uncertainty, Aiyuk remains confident he'll eventually land in Washington. However, while promoting his new book, former NFL executive Andrew Brandt questioned whether the Commanders should have any interest in acquiring the troubled receiver.
"He looks like he's a little off, and he's making these videos, and he's bashing the team," Brandt said. "Who's going to sign up for that? Commanders, really? No, I don't think so."
Aiyuk has not played since suffering ACL and MCL injuries during the 2024 season. Over five NFL seasons with the 49ers, he has recorded 294 receptions for 4,305 yards and 25 touchdowns.
