Had the two been placed on injured reserve before Tuesday's roster cut-down deadline, their seasons would have been over. However, by waiting until after the deadline, both are eligible to return after missing a minimum of four games.
The 49ers announced that they have officially placed Ward and Robinson on injured reserve. To take their roster spots, the team is re-signing two players released on Tuesday—defensive end Jordan Willis and tight end Tyler Kroft—to one-year deals.
The additions were not unexpected. Willis and Kroft had already agreed to return to the 49ers after Ward and Robinson were placed on injured reserve.
Kroft rejoins a tight end room that includes George Kittle, Ross Dwelley, and Charlie Woerner. Willis becomes the 10th defensive lineman on the roster.
The 49ers also officially announced that the team has claimed guard Blake Hance, a move reported earlier today. San Francisco also announced that it has waived running back Trey Sermon, first reported by ESPN's Field Yates.
