Wait, before I lose you, Niner fans, Rank, an analyst for NFL Media, is on the side of those who are tired of hearing about all of the suggestions that quarterback Tom Brady should head to the San Francisco 49ers.
While that wild scenario still seems unlikely to happen, the media has grabbed hold of the topic and won't let go. You know, guys like Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, and Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.
Deion Sanders of NFL Network and Tom Curran of NBC Sports Boston didn't help, either.
Rank, of course, drew criticism from the Niner Faithful last offseason after predicting the 49ers would win just three games in 2019. Instead, the team lost just three games and represented the NFC in the Super Bowl. He has since apologized and owned up to the mistake and underestimating of the team dear to Bay Area hearts.
Rank, like Niner fans, is tired of hearing members of the media trying to make it sound like dumping Jimmy Garoppolo for Brady is a good idea for all parties. Yes, it would be good for the 42-year-old Brady. Yes, it would be good for a team, like the New England Patriots, who might end up with the 28-year-old Garoppolo. For the 49ers, however, it makes little sense if the team is focused on long-term success.
"This is ridiculous," Rank said of the Brady-to-49ers narrative during a KNBR interview on the "Murph and Mac" show. "It's the most ridiculous story that is out there right now. ... Jimmy Garoppolo was on the cusp of being a Super Bowl MVP, and now you're going to bring in a 43-year-old (turns 43 in August) quarterback who couldn't beat the Titans? Enough with the nonsense, people."
You can listen to the entire interview with Rank below. You may have to skip ahead to the 10-minute mark to get to any relevant discussion, as Rank and Brian Murphy spend much of the interview entertaining themselves. The actual 49ers talk only lasts about five minutes.
