That means the 49ers will face the 34-year-old tight end twice during the upcoming season. Olsen is years removed from his last 1,000-yard season in 2016, but he still recorded 52 receptions for 597 yards with two touchdowns through 14 starts with Carolina in 2019.
The Chicago Bears made Olsen the No. 31 overall selection in 2007 after playing college football at Miami (FL). The 13-year veteran spent four seasons in Chicago before his nine-year run with Carolina. The Panthers released Olsen, who was due $11.7 million in 2020, on February 3.
Olsen is Carolina's all-time leading tight end in receiving yards (6,463) and receptions (524), and he ranks third all-time in those categories behind Steve Smith and Muhsin Muhammad.
