NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger breaks down a lot of player film via his Twitter account, and they are always interesting to watch. Baldy broke down some film on Thursday of new San Francisco 49ers running back Tevin Coleman, and what he shared should get the Niner Faithful pumped to see what head coach Kyle Shanahan can do with his new weapon.

Shanahan, of course, is very familiar with Coleman. The 49ers coach was the offensive coordinator with the Atlanta Falcons during Coleman's first two seasons in the NFL.


Shanahan didn't figure on Coleman being available at some point when he took the 49ers' job in 2017. The team was already packed with potential talent at the position, but the opportunity to add a player like Coleman was difficult to pass up.

"I remember going into this, I've never had (a moment) where I'd say (we'd have) at least four backs right now who played at a high level last year," Shanahan told reporters on Thursday. "But, I don't consider it a problem. I consider it a very good thing. There's a lot of guys we have confidence in, and a lot of guys with some different skill sets too that we can use differently."

Baldy points out that Coleman's production has increased in each of his four NFL seasons. He had 392 rushing yards during his rookie year in 2015, and that number steadily grew over the next three seasons, culminating to 800 rushing yards, 1,076 all-purpose yards, and nine combined touchdowns (rushing and receiving) in 2018.

"When he hits [the hole], he's got another gear, and everybody in the NFL knows it," Baldinger says. "There's just another gear to Tevin Coleman."
