Linebacker Malcolm Smith, who missed all of last season with a pectoral injury, continues to work his way back from a hamstring injury. Defensive coordinator Robert Saleh seemed confident that the defensive player will be available against the Vikings.
"He's going through practice today and everything looks good for gameday," Saleh told reporters on Thursday.
Smith is expected to be the starting WILL linebacker on Sunday.
Tackle Garry Gilliam and defensive back Jimmie Ward, who were both limited on Wednesday, were full participants during Thursday's practice. Gilliam has been in the concussion protocol since the 49ers' exhibition opener on August 9.
Below are Thursday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Vikings, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.
