Sherman offered up an injury update in the form of an Instagram video, which he posted on Wednesday. It shows the cornerback running on the practice field for the first time since suffering his injury. The video can be viewed below.
Other than quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, Sherman was the 49ers' most significant offseason signing. While not being able to participate on the practice field, he has taken on a mentorship role for the young 49ers secondary. That will be important to young players like second-year cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon, who figures to start across from Sherman in 2018.
Sherman's support has not been limited to the defensive backs. He, along with safety Jaquiski Tartt, was present during linebacker Reuben Foster's arraignment on April 12.
"He's a great man; he's a great kid," Sherman said after an introductory press conference in March. "If I can help him, I'll do my best."
Sherman's illustrious career includes four Pro Bowl selections and being named a first-team All-Pro three times. In seven NFL seasons, he has registered 367 combined tackles, 32 interceptions, 99 passes defensed, a sack, and five forced fumbles.
