According to TMZ, Smith is currently being investigated for a domestic incident that occurred in San Francisco. "Police interviewed Smith and the alleged victim and took a report. The case is under 'active investigation,'" reports TMZ. No arrests have been made.
Following his release from the 49ers, he caught on with the Oakland Raiders, signing a one-year deal with the team in 2015. The NFL went on to issue Smith a one-year suspension due to the hit-and-run in August of 2015 that led to his release from the 49ers. Assuming he stayed out of trouble, Smith could have been reinstated into the NFL in March. An incident like this, if true, could potentially derail his NFL career.
Smith was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Year in 2012. He has 47.5 career sacks.
