49ers’ free fall continues in home blowout loss

On Tuesday, two days after the 49ers had allowed the second-most rushing yards in franchise history, defensive coordinator Jim O'Neil insisted he could see better days ahead. The 49ers (1-6) are on their first six-game losing streak since 2008 and their defense again played a prominent role in their latest defeat. Tampa Bay had 513 yards — 307 in the first half — and Jacquizz Rodgers (26 carries, career-high 154 yards) needed less than 23 minutes to become the sixth running back in the past six games to rush for 100 yards against them. The Buccaneers (3-3) haven't reached the playoffs since 2007, they arrived ranked 23rd in the NFL in total offense (335.8 yards) and Rodgers was a backup subbing for Doug Martin and was making his seventh career start. Cornerback Rashard Robinson (knee), linebacker Aaron Lynch (ankle) and tackle Arik Armstead (shoulder) didn't finish the game.
