SANTA CLARA – Linebacker NaVorro Bowman will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a ruptured Achillles tendon, the team announced Monday.Bowman, 28, sustained the injury Sunday during a non-contact play away from the ball in the third quarter of the 49ers' 24-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys at Levi's Stadium.The 49ers in August signed Bowman to a contract extension through the 2022 season. He received a $3.4 million signing bonus and fully guaranteed salaries over the next three seasons of $16.05 million.Bowman, a four-time first-team All-Pro player, faces a lengthy rehabilitation to get back. In May 2013, then-49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree sustained a torn Achilles but made it back more than six months later for the final five games of the regular season.Bowman went to the ground in the middle of the third quarter during a play on which Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott threw an 11-yard pass to Brice Butler. Bowman was not involved in the play.Afterward, Bowman confirmed to CSNBayArea.com that he would undergo an MRI examination on his left Achilles.The injury is not related to the left knee injury Bowman sustained in January 2014 in the NFC Championship game.
