Chip Kelly defends Colin Kaepernick; decries shootings Head coach Chip Kelly aggressively supported quarterback Colin Kaepernick's protest of the national anthem today, saying one of the issues that's inspired it, the rash of police shootings of black men in America, is "heinous" and "shouldn't happen in this country." Kelly referenced the recent shootings of Terence Crutcher, 40, in Tulsa, Okla., and Keith Lamont Scott, 43, in Charlotte, N.C., by police officers. The shooting in Charlotte has inspired rioting in the city the past two nights. [...] I think, again, he's shedding light on a situation that is heinous. We all have inalienable rights as a citizen and this country and they're being violated. [...] I think that's what Colin is standing up for. Kelly was later asked about Kaepernick speaking about issues such as racial inquality in the locker room after a 28-0 season-opening win over the Rams on Sept. 12. Kelly disagreed with the assertion that Kaepernick took over the locker room and said he found the situation appropriate. When he's asked a question, I think he should answer what his feelings are on those questions. [...] it's been all football here.
