Insults keep 49ers’ Trent Brown grounded after standout preseason

Last week, the 49ers' offensive players received a packet that included the game plan for their season opener Monday night against the Rams. The scathing messages come on the heels of a preseason in which the supersized Brown — 6-foot-8 ½, 355 pounds — received outsized praise. Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Staley, 32, one of the 49ers' best players, said Brown could become one of the best players … in NFL history. Offensive line coach Pat Flaherty, 60, who owns two Super Bowl rings, said Brown has the size and athleticism that "would probably be in line with most guys that have ever played the position." [...] Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller, the Super Bowl MVP who is among the league's premier pass-rushers, termed Brown one of the NFL's "better tackles" based on their recent meetings in two joint practices and a preseason game. During training camp, as Brown took X-and-Os notes during meetings, he also scrawled his insults. [...] he's a 2015 seventh-round pick whose NFL career consists of two starts and 189 snaps. The notes are necessary for Brown, whose biggest opponent has always been complacency, an enemy which explains why he was the 244th player...

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is in high spirits, and it's no wonder why. He's well aware that his bank account is about to get a significant boost, one way or another.
Aiyuk posted a video to Instagram, showing himself dancing and seemingly celebrating the good fortune of one of his NFL peers. The Detroit Lions recently inked their star wideout, Amon-Ra St. Brown, to a lucrative four-year, $120 million contract extension. Aiyuk eagerly awaits his own deal from the 49ers and recognizes that the news out of Detroit will only strengthen his agent, Ryan Williams' hand at the negotiating table.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel will be wearing No. 1 the next time he steps onto the football field, leaving behind his No. 19 jersey. It's an unfortunate change for any fan who previously invested in a Deebo jersey—unless they consider it a throwback.
Newly signed wide receiver Trent Taylor quickly claimed No. 19 after rejoining the team on a one-year deal following three seasons elsewhere. Taylor last wore No. 15 with the 49ers, a number currently worn by wide receiver Jauan Jennings. Taylor also wore No. 81 with the team.
The 49ers' official team site has listed the jersey numbers for several of the team's free-agent newcomers (and Maliek Collins, acquired via a

Trent Williams will be 36 at the start of the 2024 NFL season. While retirement isn't on his mind just yet, the San Francisco 49ers must consider a succession plan for left tackle.
NFL Media's Bucky Brooks unveiled his final mock draft, projecting the San Francisco 49ers to select former Arizona offensive tackle Jordan Morgan with the No. 31 overall pick as their eventual replacement for Williams.
"With Trent Williams entering the twilight of his career, the 49ers have to find an eventual replacement on the edge," Brooks noted. "Morgan is a sound blocker at the point of attack with diverse skills

It will come down to what makes the most financial sense for the San Francisco 49ers. Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that, based on conversations with other teams, there's a growing sentiment that the 49ers are now more likely to trade wide receiver Deebo Samuel following the selection of former Florida wide receiver Ricky Pearsall with the No. 31 overall pick.
Based on my conversations with other teams, the 49ers are now more likely to deal Deebo Samuel than they are Brandon Aiyuk. Stay tuned.— Michael Silver (@MikeSilver)
