The San Francisco 49ers officially announced today that the team and head coach Jim Harbaugh have mutually agreed to part ways.
CEO Jed York and general manager Trent Baalke will meet with the media at 1 PM tomorrow.
Harbaugh was seen saying final goodbyes to individual players following the 49ers' season finale victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
York stated that the team is now squarely focused on finding their next head coach and that he is confident in Baalke's ability to lead that process.
It was reported late last night that Harbaugh had decided to take the job with the University of Michigan, who was reported to have offered him a 6-year, $48 million deal. A press conference to announce him as the new head coach is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
However, reports today have stated that an NFL team, possibly the Oakland Raiders, may try to make a late run at Harbaugh.
