What Steve Young expects of 49ers QB Brock Purdy in 2024
By David Bonilla

Last season, Brock Purdy proved that his rookie campaign was no fluke. In his second NFL season, the young quarterback threw for a single-season franchise-record 4,280 passing yards despite coming off surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow. Purdy led the 49ers to the Super Bowl, and the team is expected to be a contender again in the 2024 season.
Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young joined Bay Area radio station KNBR on Tuesday morning to discuss Purdy's future in the NFL. Has the young signal-caller reached his potential yet? Young believes that is the wrong question. The NFL great already categorizes Purdy as one of the best processors in the league.

Steve Young shared his insights on the San Francisco 49ers' wide receiver situation and offensive line during a recent appearance on Bay Area radio station KNBR. Heading into the 2024 NFL Draft, there was speculation about potential trades involving top wideouts Brandon Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel. However, despite rumors swirling across the league, no deals materialized.
Aiyuk and Samuel remain on the roster, but doubts linger about their long-term presence, especially after wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was selected with the No. 31 overall pick.
Aiyuk is due a contract extension, and Samuel is already among the highest-paid players at the position. Keeping both on the roster beyond the upcoming season might prove challenging, especially with quarterback Brock Purdy

Leading up to the pick, there was widespread speculation that the 49ers might trade wide receivers Brandon Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel. As the first round progressed, it appeared that neither would be moved. Pearsall's selection reignited such discussions.
General manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to Bay Area radio station KNBR following the completion of the first round, fielding questions about the implications of Pearsall's selection for the team's veteran wideouts.
