49ers rookie running back Kaelon Black shines in joint practice vs. Chargers

EL SEGUNDO — Rookie running back Kaelon Black, out since Aug. 3 with an adductor injury, was one of the bright spots in the 49ers’ joint practice Tuesday against the Los Angeles Chargers.“I thought he looked good with hitting the hole and running hard,” 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy said of Black. “You could tell there’s a different level of intensity when he touches the ball.

“I’m excited to see what he does in live action, too, with breaking tackles and hitting the gaps. I thought from the jump, K.B. came out running pretty hard. I was excited to see him back.”

Running backs Christian McCaffrey, Jordan James and Isaac Guerendo remain out of practice, so that opened the door for Black to take on a considerable workload in practice.

Black wasted no time getting involved with a 7-yard reception from Purdy on the first play of 11-on-11 drills.

On the third play, Black took a handoff and blasted through a hole on the left side to get deep into the Chargers secondary.
