LOS ANGELES — Kyle Shanahan has a positive outlook on the 49ers’ contractual standoff with star left tackle Trent Williams. Shanahan was in Southern California to coach the Wildcats flag football club in the Fanatics Flag Football Classic at BMO Stadium and spoke to NBC Sports Bay Area. “No updates from me,” Shanahan said when asked if there were any new developments with Williams. “I actually stay pretty much out of that. I know John [Lynch] and everyone is working hard to do that. I believe we will get that done. We love Trent too much and eventually that will work out.” Williams said at the end of the 2025 season that he expected to play in 2026 after 16 NFL seasons. His representation has made it well known publicly that a new contract with additional guaranteed money is part of what is on the table.Last week, the 49ers elected not to exercise Williams’ $10 million option bonus, which will raise his cap number for the season to $46.34 million as it becomes part of his base salary. This might sound like a move indicating rising tension in the negotiations or the 49ers are moving on from the left...
