According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the San Francisco 49ers are reuniting with linebacker Dre Greenlaw on a one-year, $7.5 million deal following his release from the Denver Broncos.

The 49ers selected Greenlaw in the fifth round (No. 148 overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent his first six NFL seasons with the 49ers before signing a three-year deal with the Denver Broncos as an unrestricted free agent in March 2025.
General manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan made a last-ditch effort to re-sign Greenlaw after the linebacker agreed to a deal with the Broncos, but he ultimately honored his commitment to his new team.
During the 2025 NFL season, Greenlaw appeared in eight games and made seven starts for Denver, according to Pro Football Reference. He recorded 43 total tackles, one sack, and two tackles for loss. Greenlaw also added one interception and one forced fumble and appeared in two postseason games for Denver.
The Broncos released Greenlaw after just one season.
Over seven NFL seasons, Greenlaw has appeared in 72 games with 63 starts, totaling 498 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and 20 tackles for loss. His career totals also include four interceptions, 16 passes defensed, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries—one returned for a touchdown.
Greenlaw was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2019.
