According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, the San Francisco 49ers are expected to hire Angel Matute, the offensive line coach from Kent State, to their coaching staff.
"[Matute] was key in Kent State cutting its sacks allowed total from 43 in 2024 to 27 last season," Zenitz wrote. "Also helped the team improve its rushing average by 20 yards per game."

Zenitz did not specify Matute's role on the 49ers' staff under head coach Kyle Shanahan. However, the team recently promoted Cameron Clemmons from assistant offensive line coach to tight ends coach. The 49ers have also reportedly hired Roman Sapolu, the son of franchise great Jesse Sapolu, to the coaching staff.
Matute began his coaching career with the University of Missouri in 2021 as an offensive assistant. He later participated in the 49ers' Bill Walsh NFL Diversity Coaching Fellowship in 2024 and, that same year, served as an offensive analyst and assistant offensive line coach at Purdue.
Matute joined Kent State in 2025.
