General manager John Lynch announced last week that the 49ers had signed Pro Bowl long-snapper Jon Weeks to a one-year contract extension.On Tuesday, the 49ers officially announced the deal.Now, the focus shifts to kicker Eddy Piñeiro and punter Thomas Morstead, both of whom are scheduled for unrestricted free agency next week.“Eddy was obviously fantastic,” Lynch said last week at the NFL Scouting Combine. “I don’t think the guy could have come in and done any better.“He was fantastic for us. Picked our team up in a big way, so obviously there’s great interest to try to figure that out.” The 49ers replaced Jake Moody with Piñeiro after the first game of the 2025 regular season. Piñeiro made 28 of 29 field-goal attempts, including six of seven from beyond 50 yards.Morstead averaged 43.6 yards per punt with a net average of 36.7 yards, the lowest figure for him since his rookie season of 2009.
