49ers-Panthers postgame scuffle: Jauan Jennings fires back after ‘cheap shot’ from Tre’Von Moehrig

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings was furious after Monday night's 20-9 win over the Carolina Panthers. As players and coaches mingled on the field following the final whistle, Jennings made a beeline through the crowd searching for Panthers safety Tre'Von Moehrig.

When he found him, Jennings delivered what he felt was a well-deserved smack to the head.

The outburst stemmed from an incident earlier in the game. After a play, Moehrig struck Jennings below the belt—a cheap shot that ignited the wideout's anger and led to the postgame confrontation.

Teammates quickly stepped in, restraining Jennings and preventing him from escalating the situation further as the receiver continued to try to reach Moehrig.

After the game, head coach Kyle Shanahan backed his receiver when asked about the altercation.

"Yeah, the guy took a cheap shot and hit him in the balls," Shanahan said. "I was real proud of Jauan for not losing his mind out there, and getting to the sideline."

Jennings didn't shy away from discussing the confrontation, offering his candid take.

"TV gonna tell you what happened, man," Jennings said. "I was just responding to, to me, some childish behavior. That's all it was."

Moehrig, meanwhile, denied any wrongdoing. He told reporters there's "nothing dirty" about his game unless it's earned, implying that Jennings provoked him throughout the matchup. He added that the 49ers receiver had repeatedly shoved him in the back during the game.

Jennings finished with five receptions for 41 yards and a touchdown, while Moehrig recorded eight tackles. It remains to be seen whether the NFL will issue fines or other discipline in the coming days.

Jennings later explained why tensions may have boiled over.

"It came out of nowhere," Jennings said. "It's probably just, like I was saying, just the history of me playing ball. I play hard, I'm physically stronger than a lot of DBs out there, so a lot of things happen in between the whistle, with me, at least."
