49ers promote DL Clelin Ferrell to face Cardinals, waive QB Adrian Martinez

Brock Purdy’s return to the starting lineup prompted the 49ers to subtract a quarterback from their 53-man roster on Saturday.The 49ers waived quarterback Adrian Martinez in order to create a roster spot for veteran defensive lineman Clelin Ferrell.The 49ers also elevated veteran cornerback Eli Apple to be available to play Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.Starting cornerback Deommodore Lenoir is listed as questionable with a calf injury. He did not practice on Friday.Coach Kyle Shanahan announced on Thursday that Purdy will return to the starting lineup after missing six games with a toe injury.
