San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle is coming off a season-high performance, hauling in nine receptions for 84 yards and a touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams. Now, he's hoping to carry that momentum into Sunday's matchup against the Arizona Cardinals as the team prepares for a quarterback change.
Brock Purdy hasn't played since Week 4 after aggravating a turf toe injury, but the 49ers expect their star quarterback back on the field this weekend. San Francisco, aiming to stay alive in the playoff hunt, is seeking a much-needed win after dropping four of its last seven games.
While Mac Jones performed admirably in Purdy's absence, Kittle is eager to reunite with the quarterback with whom he's built years of chemistry.
Regarding any potential timing issues that may arise with the switch, Kittle remains confident.
"Well, the good news is I've played with Brock for several years now, and won a lot of football games, caught a lot of passes from him," Kittle said on Thursday. "I spent an entire offseason with him, so I think that will get going pretty fast. I feel like me and Mac just started rolling, so I'm just happy we have two very talented quarterbacks who can both sling the ball.
"And I'm just looking forward to playing with Brock again, though, because I thoroughly enjoy just his energy and his leadership out there. So, I'm just looking forward to playing with him again."
A win on Sunday could give the 49ers the boost they need to climb back into the NFC West race.
Kittle has appeared in five games this season, recording 21 catches for 184 yards and three touchdowns. He last played alongside Purdy in Week 1, catching four passes for 25 yards and a touchdown before suffering a hamstring injury.
