Kyle Shanahan states George Kittle is a ‘long shot’ to play vs. Buccaneers

The 49ers expect to get second-year safety Malik Mustapha back at practice next week, but George Kittle is likely to miss at least another game.Coach Kyle Shanahan on Friday described Kittle as a “long shot” to be able to get back in time for the 49ers’ Week 6 game at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Oct. 12.Mustapha has progressed from ACL surgery in January, and the 49ers expect to open his three-week practice window when the team returns after the long weekend.There still appears to be no timetable for Aiyuk’s return. Aiyuk sustained a torn ACL last season and underwent surgery in November.Both Mustapha and Aiyuk currently are on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list and were required to sit out the first four games of the regular season.Because the 49ers’ fifth game came on a short week with nothing other than walk-through practices, there was never any consideration given to opening their practice windows before the game against the Rams.Kittle sustained a hamstring injury in Week 1.
