The 49ers will start a rookie at safety in Week 1 of the regular season for the first time in 12 years.Marques Sigle, a fifth-round 2025 NFL Draft pick, will be in the starting lineup Sunday afternoon in the 49ers’ season opener against the Seattle Seahawks, a source told NBC Sports Bay Area.Sigle had a strong training camp and preseason to win the starting role in defensive coordinator Robert Saleh’s defense over third-year player Ji’Ayir Brown. Sigle will start alongside veteran safety Jason Pinnock, the source said. Pinnock started 32 games over the past two seasons with the New York Giants.
