The San Francisco 49ers' decision to work out wide receiver Kendrick Bourne on Monday wasn't just a motivational tactic designed to get Jauan Jennings back on the practice field. According to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, the 49ers formally extended a contract offer to Bourne but were unable to finalize an agreement.
Bourne is now visiting the Washington Commanders, likely hoping any potential offer from them will surpass San Francisco's.

Jennings had been sidelined for most of training camp with what the 49ers labeled a lingering calf injury. However, the veteran receiver is also believed to be seeking a new contract after signing a two-year deal in 2024.
The duo of Jennings and second-year receiver Ricky Pearsall is slated to start when the 49ers open the 2025 NFL season against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field on Sunday.
Bourne, 30, began his career with San Francisco in 2017 as an undrafted free agent and spent four seasons with the team. He later signed with the New England Patriots in 2021 and went on to post his best season with 55 catches for 800 yards and five touchdowns in his first season there.
Over his eight-year NFL career, Bourne (6-1, 205) has recorded 3,714 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns.
