The 49ers added some depth to their defensive line Friday, while they parted ways again with a veteran tight end.San Francisco signed defensive end Shakel Brown to a one-year deal and released tight end Ross Dwelley to create an extra roster spot, the team announced.Brown, 26, went undrafted in 2023 after spending three seasons at Troy University. The Miami native signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent but spent the year on injured reserve after suffering an ankle injury in the preseason.In 2024, Brown spent time on the practice squads for the 49ers and Miami Dolphins, but he has yet to appear in a regular-season NFL game. He also has been signed by the Houston Roughnecks of the UFL and the Edmonton Elks of the CFL in 2025, but he never played for either team. So, Brown’s last stats from competitive games came with Troy in 2022, when he recorded four sacks and 32 tackles across 13 games.Dwelley, 30, also went undrafted before signing with the 49ers in 2018.
