SANTA CLARA — The Denver Broncos owned the No. 3 scoring defense in the NFL last season.For most of their joint practice with the 49ers on Thursday, they controlled the action.But the 49ers’ offense got going late with a couple touchdowns during periods that featured starters against starters.“When you go up against a group like theirs, especially defensively, what they did last year statistically in all their phases, and the guys they added, we knew that was a really good challenge for us,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said after practice.Quarterback Brock Purdy had a difficult time getting anything going through most of practice. The Broncos administered a steady pass rush with sticky coverage on the back end.Purdy could not connect with wide receiver Ricky Pearsall on at least their first three tries during 11-on-11 work.
