49ers wideout Ricky Pearsall continues to shine on Day 11 of NFL training camp

SANTA CLARA — Just about any matchup with a linebacker assigned to cover 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey could be considered a mismatch.But on the practice field Tuesday, there was a linebacker who had McCaffrey shadowed deep down the field.Quarterback Brock Purdy’s pass fell incomplete.Here’s the surprising part: That linebacker was not Fred Warner.Instead, it was third-year linebacker Dee Winters who had McCaffrey blanketed on the deep route.“His coverage ability is as good as anybody,” 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh said of Winters. “You trust him in those situations.”Winters appears to have the inside track to a starting job as he enters his third NFL season after starting 10 games last season.He has shown steady improvement in each of his first three training camps.
