49ers linebackers coach confident Dre Greenlaw will come back stronger

May 22, 2024 at 5:40 PM

Dre Greenlaw continues to work his way back from a torn Achilles, recently calling it a "long, long, slow process." He is out of a protective boot three months after his fluke, non-contact injury during the Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs. The goal for Greenlaw and the 49ers is for his return Week 1, but it's more likely he will begin the season on the physically unable to perform list. The 49ers signed De'Vondre Campbell this offseason with that in mind.49ers linebackers coach Johnny Holland can't wait to get Greenlaw, whenever that is, and trusts that the six-year linebacker will return better than ever."Dre is always positive," Holland said Wednesday, via David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com. "Dre is always the cup is half full than empty, and I got a lot of confidence that he'll be back full-go. And I don't know the timeframe, but Dre is a player that stands for the 49er type of defensive player that we want. He's a violent, physical player, but on the other side, he's a great teammate, and we miss him being on the field. But [injuries are] part of the game, and he'll get through it."

Maiocco less confident 49ers will get a deal done with Brandon Aiyuk

By David Bonilla
Jun 11

The San Francisco 49ers have had success signing their big-name players to contract extensions in recent years, securing deals with George Kittle, Fred Warner, Deebo Samuel, and Nick Bosa. However, that last one didn't get finalized until dangerously close to the start of the regular season. This year, the team has been trying to get a deal done with wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. While the 49ers were confident early on, given their successful track record, that a deal would be reached, the two sides reportedly remain far apart in negotiations. Last week, Michael Silver of the San Francisco

The San Francisco 49ers faced a tough financial decision this offseason. Unable to negotiate a salary reduction with defensive tackle Arik Armstead, who had struggled with injuries in recent years, the team decided to part ways with the longtime Niner. To mitigate the loss of Armstead, the 49ers traded a seventh-round draft pick to the Houston Texans for defensive tackle Maliek Collins. San Francisco's defensive line coach, Kris Kocurek, recently discussed the addition of Collins and what he likes about the defensive lineman. "I really liked him coming out of Nebraska — just the explosion that he can generate through his lower body," Kocurek told

49ers coach sends clear message about kicker Jake Moody

By David Bonilla
Jun 12

San Francisco 49ers kicker Jake Moody had some crucial misses during his rookie campaign, but he still connected on 21 of his 25 field goal attempts during the regular season. He missed a field goal attempt in each of the 49ers' first two playoff games last season but connected on all three of his attempts in the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs. Moody briefly set a Super Bowl record with a 55-yard field goal. However, Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker later set a new record, connecting on a 57-yard kick. Moody's postseason miscues were foreshadowed by a shaky Week 18 performance against the Los Angeles Rams when he missed a field goal attempt and an extra point. While that missed extra point was his first of the season, the kicker went on to miss another in

49ers coach reveals strategic plans for Leonard Floyd

By David Bonilla

Leonard Floyd was the San Francisco 49ers' biggest offseason addition, providing a pass-rushing presence to complement All-Pro Nick Bosa. "I believe our skill sets will complement each other well," Floyd said after signing with the 49ers in free agency. "We both been guys who've been getting sacks in this league. I'm just going to come in and do my job, do my part, and that's to come in to help him affect the game and get pressure on the quarterback." Last month, after reporting for organized team activities, Bosa shared his early impressions of Floyd, saying, "I think he's a super-skilled rusher, good length, and he's more athletic than I even realized. And I think guys like him,
