The Nashville Kats of the Arena Football League report that the San Francisco 49ers are calling up Cade Brewer. The social media post announcing the move is unclear about whether the 49ers are signing the former Texas Longhorns tight end or bringing him in for a tryout. Based on the wording, it's most likely the latter.

San Francisco is expected to hold a rookie minicamp at the end of next week.

Brewer (6-4, 230) played five seasons for the Longhorns, hauling in 59 passes for 611 yards with eight touchdowns during his collegiate career. He had a career-best 22 catches for 184 yards and three scores in his final season with Texas, earning All-Big 12 honorable mention.

In his one game with the Kats, Brewer hauled in a team-high three catches for 58 yards, a long of 31 yards, and averaged 19.3 yards per catch.

"This is exactly what we want for our Kats players," Kats coach Dean Cokinos said. "Sure, we will miss Cade as a person and a player. But through our evaluation processes for all our players, we want to identify players with a high ceiling who are also engaged in our community."

In 2022, Brewer got a shot with the Seattle Seahawks, signing with the team after going undrafted. He caught three passes for 17 yards in two preseason games with Seattle.

Analyst declares 49ers the 'best team in football, and it's not even close'

By David Bonilla
May 16

The Kansas City Chiefs might have clinched back-to-back Super Bowl victories, including February's overtime triumph over the San Francisco 49ers, but one NFL analyst won't declare Andy Reid's squad the best in the league heading into a new season. That distinction goes to the Super Bowl runner-up. The NFL unveiled its complete 2024 schedule on Wednesday. When asked which Super Bowl participant has the best chance of returning to the big game in the upcoming season, Fox Sports analyst Craig Carton didn't hesitate to respond, "San Francisco." "They're the best team in football, and it's not even close," he continued. "They're the best team, not just in football, they're the best team in the NFC. There's three or four teams that are obviously going to give them a
