ESPN senior analyst Mel Kiper believes the 49ers will use the No. 63 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on defense after they bolster the offensive line in the first round. Kiper shared Thursday his belief that Kentucky cornerback Andru Phillips will be available to San Francisco late in the second round and could fill the team's nickel-back need. "That's exactly what he is, what he was and what he can be. Outside, slot, nickel," Kiper said via video conference. "Dru Phillips didn't have any interceptions at Kentucky, but he's a physical corner. He got better and better. He tested really well, very athletic with a 42-inch vertical, ran well, played well. You always like testing the work with the tape, and it did with Dru Philips." The 49ers likely will look for defensive backfield additions, even after signing ex-Baltimore Ravens cornerback Rock Ya-Sin to a one-year free-agent contract Thursday, as the former second-round pick has very little experience on the inside. 49ers sign 6th-round draft pick Jarrett Kingston to 4-yr, $4.16 million rookie deal

The San Francisco 49ers have reportedly signed former USC offensive lineman Jarrett Kingston to his rookie four-year deal. The team made him a sixth-round draft pick, selecting him 215th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. This leaves wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, the team's first-round selection, as the only unsigned 49ers draft pick.
According to OverTheCap.com, Kingston's four-year contract is worth about $4.16 million. This includes a signing bonus of approximately $138,000 and a 2024 salary-cap hit of about $830,000.

ESPN's Matt Bowen recently analyzed 16 rookies from the 2024 NFL Draft whom he believes landed in perfect scenarios. Bowen considered traits, scheme, playcalling tendencies, and coaching in his assessment. One player from the San Francisco 49ers' recent draft class made the cut.
The Niners selected safety Malik Mustapha out of Wake Forest in the fourth round with the 124th overall pick. The pairing of Mustapha with the Bay Area team, known for its physical defense, has Bowen intrigued.

NFL Network's Bucky Brooks believes Ricky Pearsall will open up opportunities for head coach Kyle Shanahan. He suggests that drafting the rookie was a response to the San Francisco 49ers' Super Bowl 58 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. During the "NFL Fantasy Football Show," Brooks stated that the rookie wide receiver will address some issues the 49ers offense faced against man coverage.
