Nick Bosa’s analysis of 49ers defense: ‘I think it’s the best in the league’

The San Francisco 49ers defense put on a show on Monday night against the Los Angeles Rams. Of course, the unit has been downright dominant this season, holding opponents to nine-or-fewer points in each of their last three games. The Denver Broncos scored 11 points in Week 3, but two came courtesy of a safety.

Defensive end Nick Bosa has been a part of good defenses during his time in the NFL, all spent with the 49ers. He knows there is something special about this season's unit, though. After Monday night's 24-9 win, a reporter asked the talented pass rusher about the defense's ceiling this year.

"I think it's the best in the league," Bosa responded. "That's kind of our mindset every year, and this year we have the personnel to do it. Not that we haven't in the past, but just all three levels [have] elite players. The addition of Charvarius [Ward], and [Talanoa Hufanga] starting to play at this level. And obviously, we're going to get Jimmie [Ward] and [Jason] Verrett back, which is pretty scary.

"And then the depth on the D-line, guys Hassan [Ridgeway] and Charles [Omenihu], and Samson's [Ebukam] coming on. I think he's playing his best ball of his career. So it's a group effort."

San Francisco racked up seven sacks against Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, including Bosa's fifth of the season. While Bosa now leads the league in that category, he isn't celebrating just yet.

"I think I'm still leaving a few out there, but one game at a time," Bosa said. "And when you have a lot of guys around you who are producing, it's a lot easier on you."

Analyst Dane Brugler recently revealed his seven-round mock draft for The Athletic, forecasting all 257 selections in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, set to kick off next week. "Piecing together a mock like this is time consuming, but I enjoy the exercise, because it allows me to focus on each team's needs, organizational trends and prospect-team pairings that make sense based on '30' visits, league buzz and overall interest," Brugler wrote. Most expect the 49ers to address the trenches early in the draft, and Brugler has the team doing that. It's just not on the offensive side of the football. In fact, Brugler doesn't have San Francisco
