Don't hold your breath if you are waiting for the San Francisco 49ers to make a splashy move before Tuesday's trade deadline. Head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters today and was asked if there is a chance the 49ers acquire someone before then.
"There's always a possibility," Shanahan responded. "Those guys talk through everything. I'd be surprised if we did. Those trades aren't always as easy as they seem. That's why I think there's a lot of talk through all 32 teams. ... When it comes down to it, there's not many that actually happen.
"We're open to stuff that we think can help us now, but we don't want to do that at the expense of hurting us in the future. There's a lot of things that go into it, so I won't say never, but I'd be surprised if something happened."
One team that is never afraid to be aggressive in adding talent is the Los Angeles Rams. This morning, they traded for Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller. Shanahan was asked to share his thoughts on that deal.
"I heard it while I was in meetings, going through our game from yesterday and stuff," Shanahan said. "Just like anybody who's got to play against him, you don't want to have to add Von Miller to the mix. But that's part of this league, and that's part of what happens. You've got to be ready for anything.
"Von's a real good player. He'll definitely help them. I don't know exactly the details, cap-wise, or money, what they did for it and stuff, but I know that's going to help them right now, that's for sure."
