With Jimmy Garoppolo formally declared out of Sunday's game, Trey Lance, 21, will become the first 49ers rookie quarterback to start a game since C.J. Beathard in 2017. Lance will likely be without All-Pro tight end George Kittle, who is doubtful to play because of a calf injury.
