49ers' DeMeco Ryans hopeful Nick Bosa will be available vs. Packers: 'We definitely need him out there'

By David Bonilla
Jan 19

The San Francisco 49ers defense is a different beast with pass rusher Nick Bosa anchoring the edge of the defensive line. Unfortunately, Bosa left Sunday's playoff win against the Dallas Cowboys with a head injury. He is currently in the concussion protocol as the team prepares for this weekend's playoff opponent—the Green Bay Packers. The 49ers are at a bit of a disadvantage thanks to the NFL scheduling the Divisional Round playoff match on a Saturday. That means Bosa has one less day to clear the concussion protocol. You can never predict the recovery timeline for head injuries. Concussions impact everyone differently. Defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans' job on Saturday night would be a whole lot easier with Bosa in the lineup. Naturally, he is hopeful

Jimmie Ward: Garoppolo gives 49ers a 'great chance' to beat Packers

By David Bonilla
Jan 20

A lot of people like to criticize Jimmy Garoppolo. He's not the type of quarterback who plays mistake-free football. However, he does win football games—a lot more than he loses. Garoppolo is 37-15 as a starter, counting the playoffs. Some will argue that often, the 49ers win games despite Garoppolo. This past weekend's playoff win against the Dallas Cowboys is a perfect example of that. Garoppolo tossed a costly interception that kept Dallas in the game, but the team held on for a 23-17 victory. Garoppolo is banged up, though. He was already playing through an injured right thumb that causes pain with each throw. In addition, Garoppolo suffered a right shoulder sprain in the game. Nevertheless, he's been practicing this week, and all signs point to him

49ers DT D.J. Jones Eyes Super Bowl After Injury Robbed Him of Chance In 2019

By Alan Gaines
Jan 25

D.J. Jones is set to cash in this offseason. The fourth year player out of Ole' Miss has played phenomenal this season and is very likely going to be amongst the most sought after interior defensive linemen in free agency this off season. With a hefty payday merely a formality at this point, the defensive tackle has his eyes set on an opportunity that eluded him during the 49ers Super Bowl run of 2019. A win Sunday over their NFC West rivals the Los Angeles Rams would give Jones the chance to play on the game's biggest stage. Jones went on season ending IR with a high ankle sprain after the 49ers thrilling 48 - 46 win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 14 of the 2019 season. Jones had emerged as the starter opposite then 49er DeForest Buckner on the interior coming out of

Tough task: 49ers can't let Packers WR Davante Adams have another big game

By David Bonilla
Jan 21

Davante Adams, the two-time first-team All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowler, is among the best wide receivers in the NFL. He's been one of quarterback Aaron Rodgers' most reliable weapons this season and will be someone the San Francisco 49ers defense has to slow down during Saturday's playoff game against the Green Bay Packers. Adams has been a handful for the 49ers in recent years. The receiver has hauled in 48 receptions for 618 yards and five touchdowns in five meetings with the Niners since 2018, including the 2019 season's nine-reception, 138-yard performance in the NFC Championship Game. That's an average of nearly 124 yards per game. He's been dominant. "I just think of how balanced he is and how his lower half is with his feet," head coach Kyle Shanahan said
