Injuries can sometimes lead to opportunities in the NFL, and when those opportunities arise, it's important for the players who get their chance to make the most of it. One of the biggest examples of that this season for the San Francisco 49ers has been third-year linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, who has been shining recently in a starting role after taking over for the injured Dre Greenlaw. Greenlaw has been injured for most of the season after suffering a groin injury against the Detroit Lions in Week 1. Al-Shaair has stepped in and been a standout at times, in particular during the 49ers' 34-26 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Al-Shaair had eight tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery in the game, which also saw Greenlaw's return from

Azeez Al-Shaair: Records don't matter when it comes to 49ers-Seahawks

No one at the San Francisco 49ers team facility is taking the Seattle Seahawks lightly. On Monday night, the Seahawks lost their third straight and sixth of the last seven games, falling to 3-8 on the season. The 49ers, however, appear to be surging. They have won three straight and four of their last five games. After being cast aside earlier in the season, San Francisco is now entrenched in the playoff hunt. This is 49ers-Seahawks, though. Oddsmakers favor the 6-5 Niners in the road matchup, but Seattle coach Pete Carroll has had 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan's number in recent years. The Seahawks have won the last three meetings between the two teams and four of the previous five. San Francisco's last win in Seattle came during that

It wasn't too long ago that several fans called for the San Francisco 49ers to part ways with Josh Norman. The veteran cornerback's exchange with Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury led to a costly penalty in an embarrassing Niners loss. On Sunday, Norman forced a fumble in the 49ers' dominating 30-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Linebacker Fred Warner recovered the loose football. The forced fumble was Norman's sixth of the season — a career-high mark that ranks as the second-most in a single season in franchise history, bested only by defensive lineman Roy Barker's eight in 1996. "He's done it his whole career," head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters after the game. "Everyone knows Josh has played at a high level. I think

Kyle Shanahan reveals his message to Jauan Jennings after scuffle during 49ers-Jaguars

Things got a little heated during the first half of Sunday's matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Jacksonville Jaguars. Jaguars safety Rayshawn Jenkins threw a punch that connected with 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings, resulting in a penalty, the defender getting ejected from the game, and keeping San Francisco's drive alive. What was head coach Kyle Shanahan's message to his young receiver after the scuffle? "I just told him, 'Great job. Now put your helmet on,'" Shanahan told reporters via a conference call on Monday. "It took him too long to hear 'put your helmet on,' but I thought, from what I saw, I saw him competing as hard as you can compete on a run play and just playing until the whistle. "Obviously, the other guy got upset with
