After playing in the NFL as a wide receiver since 2014, Jordan Matthews is working on converting to a tight end. He had two stints with the San Francisco 49ers from 2019-20.

Matthews will participate in the free-agent tryouts put on by HUB Football in San Diego on Sunday. The workout will take place in front of NFL, CFL, USFL, and USA Rugby scouts.

ESPN's Turron Davenport reported last month that, at the time, Matthews had added 30 pounds during the transition to tight end. HUB listed Matthews at 235 on its roster of attendees.

NFL Network's Ian Rapport reports that Matthews has actually added over 15 pounds and was among the many attendees at Tight End University in Nashville, Tennessee. The gathering of NFL tight ends was organized by George Kittle of the 49ers, Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, and former NFL tight end Greg Olsen.

Rapoport adds that Matthews continues to work out in Nashville with a group of tight ends that includes Kittle and Robert Tonyan of the Green Bay Packers.

It is worth noting that 49ers rookie quarterback Trey Lance threw passes to Matthews before the draft, during his second pro day in April.

Matthews compiled 274 catches for 3,288 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns in his seven NFL seasons.

H/t to Patrick Tulini for the find.
