49ers sticking with Jimmy Garoppolo wasn't a tough decision, says Kyle Shanahan

By David Bonilla
Jan 12

There was a lot of pressure for the San Francisco 49ers to play rookie Trey Lance more. Not just at the start of the season but throughout the entire 2021 campaign. That included the week leading to the regular-season finale against the Los Angeles Rams, especially with starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo dealing with a pretty concerning right thumb injury. Garoppolo did play through the pain of his torn ligament and chipped bone in that thumb. He put in a gutsy performance, leading the 49ers to a playoff-clinching 27-24 overtime victory over the Rams. Head coach Kyle Shanahan did what he could to block out the outside noise, never giving in to the pressure to start Lance. It ended up being the right call, but the coach understands why everyone wanted to see the

Tough task: 49ers can't let Packers WR Davante Adams have another big game

By David Bonilla

Davante Adams, the two-time first-team All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowler, is among the best wide receivers in the NFL. He's been one of quarterback Aaron Rodgers' most reliable weapons this season and will be someone the San Francisco 49ers defense has to slow down during Saturday's playoff game against the Green Bay Packers. Adams has been a handful for the 49ers in recent years. The receiver has hauled in 48 receptions for 618 yards and five touchdowns in five meetings with the Niners since 2018, including the 2019 season's nine-reception, 138-yard performance in the NFC Championship Game. That's an average of nearly 124 yards per game. He's been dominant. "I just think of how balanced he is and how his lower half is with his feet," head coach Kyle Shanahan said

By David Bonilla

The San Francisco 49ers hope to extend their winning streak against the Los Angeles Rams to six games on Sunday. A victory would clinch a playoff berth for Kyle Shanahan's squad. However, a loss paired with a New Orleans Saints win would end its 2021 campaign. Respected NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger not only expects the Niners to start quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, but he predicts the 49ers will beat the Rams again. "I've got the 49ers winning 27-24," Baldinger told 95.7 The Game's Damon Bruce and Ray Ratto. "… I'm going with the 49ers." The home-team Rams are currently 3.5-point favorites in the playoff-impacting Week 18 clash between the NFC West rivals. Yet, Baldinger sounds pretty confident in Shanahan, Garoppolo, and the
