Katie Sowers, the first openly gay assistant coach in the NFL who became the second full-time female coach in league history after she joined the 49ers in 2017, will not return to the team in 2021. "I loved my time here," Sowers said. "In terms of advancement opportunities, there are more other places than here, in terms of my ceiling for growth."
